Webatlantis: U Comment, I Follow !

  • Niagara Falls Blog · 2 years ago
I also removed my No Follow code recently. I have to really watch the spammers though. There are a lot of people that just flood the comments with links now, which defeats the whole purpose. If they don't say anything about the topic, I delete it.

Thanks for your help in promoting the Do Follow Movement!

    Regards,

  • Collin LaHay · 2 years ago
I got rid of this plugin because it actually did increase the spam I got. I was listed in a ton of "dofollow blog search engines", which ultimately led to a bunch of real readers, who left comments just for links.

I have disabled nofollow, but give followed links in my top commentators plugin. I hope your luck turns out better.
  • Ilias · 2 years ago
At the moment I haven't seen any increase in the spam comments I get, although I expect it. Therefore I moderate the comments, at least the first time somebody leaves a message.
Moreover Akismet seems to be working fine..
Giving followed links in top commentators is a good idea though..
  • The-RockeR · 2 years ago
I think this could be dangerous if you don't see some spam comments and they are published. May Google indentify you as a spammer too for having links to some spam links...
  • Ilias · 2 years ago
It is dangerous.. therefore as I said before I moderate the comments on this blog. Anyway, Akismet seems to be doing a great job for me...

    Thanks for joining the movement.

By the way, I'm reading Joe Vitale's "Hypnotic Writing" and, so far its the best book I've ever read on how to write.

True, Using dofollow link attributes in your comment would appriciate readers to leave more comments on your blog.. thus making them stay for a longer time.. who know someone likes something in your blog during commenting and become ur reader.. it help full and should be like this way..

I have a feeling that people will post nonsensical comments just to get a backlink from blogs.
How do we prevent them from doing so?
  • penny stocks · 1 year ago
    very good work done
this is a good step in a very good direction:)

At the very least we should delete from our blogs comments that are truly spam. For repeat offenders there is probably some form of programming script that could be used to block their comments in the future.
  • Internet Tips · 1 year ago
No follow in comments is simply of no use. do follow encourages readers to comment in our blog posts and share what they think on the issue

Excellent information. I completely agree to what you are saying.
  • MSN hacken · 1 year ago
You are absolutely right if everything you are saying here above is meanless. I know NoFollow is hateful, but it is not useful for spammers, so they don't spam your blog. That's the reason why a lot bloggers don't follow the links of their readers.
  • Asia'h · 1 year ago
No follow has really made it hard for new bloggers to get any authority. social bookmarking is fine but even it is flooded with spammers.

That' s original, somebody who faces Google headlines. I have enjoyed a lot reading your stuff.

I personally think Google created a big mess with the nofollow attribute. I personally don't like the idea of nofollow, but made the choice to keep the nofollow on my blog. I jumped on the dofollow thing for a while, but it resulted in a lot of low quality comments being left on my blog. Most were just useless one lines from people who had never commented before. My regular visitors didn't seem to change the comment behavior.
So I took it off just to save my self the time of looking through short comments and trying to figure out which were spam. To thank my visitors, I try to link drop in posts from time to time.

I too, yes dear. It causes spam. I am also facing the same problem with my blog site. I found this site while searching for an article about online marketing. Good site. keep posting good content

Do you know if you simply search "u comment i follow" in Google image search you can find 1000s of Do follow blogs. Its a little trick I use quite often and works pretty well.

I've created a dofollow website that searches only dofollow websites. This makes it a little easier for people to find them and this site has been included in the search.
  • Graham "Ultimate Footer Ad" Co · 1 year ago
Yes I do believe that link love is good, but there are some people who miss use this do follow thing. These people post links in the comments and want to get traffic to those links.
  • Affiliate marketing blog · 1 year ago
Good for you, I'm seriously thinking about switching to dofollow myself; but then I don't really have much traffic and comments are not that many to start with so doubt anyone would notice :)

    thanks anyway
  • Rob · 1 year ago
I am wondering that why wordpress and Drupal blogs come with "no Follow" attribute by default because it always refrain user's interest in your blog entries. I can see the boost in my traffic right after disabling "no follow" but we should implement other plugins as well to prevent all possible spam. I like to share some Google link juice with my users but it doesn't mean that they are free to do anything. We can use Akismet to prevent spam and we can configure to prevent all comments on posts older than a specific time.
  • Sim Only Contract Deals · 12 months ago
Ha Ha. This is very funny. The post is supposed to encourage people to "follow" yet all comments here are not followed. I do agree however that the a lot of top quality bloggers have been affected by this stupid no follow tag. Its not helping anyone and even if it is helping someone, it is only probably helping Google.
  • Ilias · 12 months ago
You 're right.. just before a couple of days I disabled the plugin, until I find a way to discourage people leaving useless comments..

You should really practice what you preach though. It does appear that the links on your site has rel="external nofollow". I believe that tell google not to follow.

It's interesting seeing the different views in regards to no-follow/pro-follow. In one way you can potentially preserve "link juice" but you can harm possible comments to your website that may be legitimate and point towards really good material.

Nofollow takes some freedoms away with website building, and makes it harder to perform for the underdogs. I agree with your post. Thanks for the info :)

Thank you for taking this step. It would be interesting to know how helpful it has been for you personally. I like the idea of dofollow blogs, but get very irritated when the bulk of the responses are of the kind, "Great post, I enjoyed reading it," or "Fantastic blog, keep up the good work."

As a web writing trainer I am sometimes asked to give advice on good blogging practice. Three of my golden rules for people responding to a blog are 1) read the blog, 2) show that you have put some thought into your response, 3) add some value to the blog, maybe with an extra tip or an added insight or even a contrary opinion. Fingers crossed, I haven't broken any of my rules in this comment!

Nofollow was designed to prevent spam and I am sure that in many websites it does. Spammer don't like this tag and they are not deciding to spamm the website that it has it.

Well most of the spammers don't know about No Follow probably, but they don't just focus for the links, they also want traffic with these links, so if you really don't want any spammers you should remove Website section from your comment form :)

I like especially number 9 nofollow prevents the Web from being a web and
number 10 nofollow eliminates the dissemination of free speech

What makes the web a good web?

The only issue one faces is with spammers in the nofollow code implementation. I have not been able to resolve that.

It could be a tedious task for the owner, but manually approving the comments can really help - do not approve the spammy automated comments. We must all maintain netiquette on web world to maintain a good relationship in the community.
